Basketball Recap: Ke'dren Washington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lamar over Bowie

Lamar lost against Bowie back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lamar Vikings took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bowie Volunteers. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 559th, while the Volunteers are ranked 149th).

Lamar's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ke'Dren Washington, who posted 20 points and three steals. That's the most points Washington has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dearmondrae Batie, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Lamar has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for Bowie, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-8.

Lamar has already played their next matchup (against Grand Prairie), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bowie will head out on the road to square off against South Grand Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bowie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully South Grand Prairie likes a good challenge.
