6A Region 8 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Florence extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 8 this week by beating Vestavia Hills, 28-21. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Austin was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Hartselle. The Black Bears came in at 15 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
Decatur's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jackson Fite threw for 154 and two touchdowns and Harold Blades had 94 yards receiving. On the ground Josh Matthews chipped in 84 yards. Jordan Tibbs helped Decatur's passing attack out by catching three balls for 43 yards.
Decatur's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Red Raiders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Fite has thrown for 842 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, while Tibbs has 20 catches for 306 yards. Matthews leads the league in rushing with 875 yards.
Florence made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,030 from 1,573. The advance stemmed from a 28-21 victory over the Rebels last week.
