Highland Tech and Ashbrook are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Rams will be taking part in a tournament against the Greenwave at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Highland Tech put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy with a sharp 24-4 victory. The Rams have beaten the Gryphons the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Gryphons has come to flipping the script.
Erwing Soza made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Highland Tech is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise. Soza was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Highland Tech let Cooper Hartis and Coleman Schafer run wild. Hartis got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Schafer went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Schafer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Watts, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Highland Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, Ashbrook won against Huss on Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Greenwave walked away with a 13-10 win over the Huskies. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greenwave.
Ashbrook's victory bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Highland Tech, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Highland Tech took their victory against Ashbrook in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-4 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greenwave turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
