Lake Mary Prep has gone 7-1 against Crooms Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lake Mary Prep Griffins will square off against the Crooms Academy Panthers at 6:00 p.m.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Lake Mary Prep and Geneva had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Lake Mary Prep lost 9-3 to Geneva on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Griffins in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost four in a row.
Lake Mary Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Ogden, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those hits were Ogden's first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Crooms Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Holy Cross Lutheran Academy with a sharp 16-1 victory on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Franco and Parker Buckley were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Franco struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Buckley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Franco scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Buckley got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave Buckley a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leland Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Bachand, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Crooms Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holy Cross Lutheran Academy only posted an OBP of .250.
Crooms Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lake Mary Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Lake Mary Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against Crooms Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Mary Prep since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
