If the Sterling Jets were feeling good off their 48-16 takedown of the Dorchester Longhorns on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sterling fell 47-34 to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Friday. The contest was a 17-17 toss-up at halftime, but Sterling was outscored by Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer in the second.
Several Jets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Uher, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Uher has scored all season. Brody Horstman was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sterling were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer to victory were Hunter Bohling and Brogan Dunlap. Bohling dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Dunlap scored 16 points along with six assists. The match was Dunlap's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colt Mcclarnen, who scored eight points.
Sterling's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, their win ended a 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9.
Sterling will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Southern on January 19th. Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Conestoga at 4:00 p.m. on January 6th. Conestoga has insisted on making their lastfive contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 4-1 during that stretch of close contests.
