Basketball Recap: Oakwood Skates Past Covington with Ease + How To Watch

Oakwood was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Covington on Monday. The Comets took their contest with ease, bagging a 56-29 victory over the Trojans. The Comets pushed the score to 54-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Oakwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gracie Hanner led the charge by going 5-for-10 en route to 15 points along with six assists and three steals. That's the most points Hanner has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caydence Vermillion, who shot 86% from the field to rack up 16 points and six rebounds.

Covington's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauren Hardy, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Shaw, who earned five points and three steals.

Oakwood now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Covington, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Oakwood will host Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Covington, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Armstrong at 6:30 p.m.
