The Oakdale Warriors fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Rapides Mustangs on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 63-61. Oakdale's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Leading Rapides to victory were Zayveian Johnson and Christopher Newton. Johnson scored 17 points along with three steals, while Newton dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Newton set a new season high mark in blocks with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Sheldrick Vall, who scored six points.
Oakdale's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Rapides, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakdale will take on Glenmora at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Rapides, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Monterey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monterey is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
