The Walpole Timberwolves will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Millbury Woolies at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Walpole pushed their score all the way to 91 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Norwood by a score of 94-91. Walpole has not had much luck with Norwood recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, Millbury put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Burke 53-52. Given Millbury's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Burke is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Millbury's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenny Donnelly, who scored 18 points. The matchup was Donnelly's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mathias Waire, who scored 13 points.
Walpole's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Millbury, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Walpole didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Millbury in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 54-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walpole since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
