Baseball Recap: Hazelwood Central Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Hazelwood Central waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the McCluer North Stars with a sharp 10-3 win. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly seven runs.

Mekhi Maclin and Jace Dickson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Maclin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Dickson kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single hit in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Maclin went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles, while Dickson went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Dickson is becoming a predictor of Hazelwood Central's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Julius Reed was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Hazelwood Central pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for McCluer North, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazelwood Central will face off against Riverview Gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for McCluer North, they will take on Normandy at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
