The Plains Cowboys''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell to Ropes 25-19. Plains lost against Ropes in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 35-18 score last time.
Despite the loss, Plains still got an impressive performance from Tyler Vargas, who threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Plains' loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 New Home and 6-3 Sudan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.3% over those games). As for Ropes, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Plains will head out on the road to face off against Smyer at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smyer has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 25. As for Ropes, they will be playing at home against New Home at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Home knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Ropes likes a good challenge.
