Bountiful is a perfect 10-0 against Woods Cross since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The RedHawks will square off against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Bountiful's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Woods Cross' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Bountiful is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Box Elder, who was ranked ninth at the time (Bountiful was ranked seventh). The RedHawks fell 4-1 to the Bees on Monday. The RedHawks' defeat signaled the end of their 14-game winning streak.
Claire Yates made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Woods Cross never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Summit Academy on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 17-2 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Savannah Juggert made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Juggert was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Woods Cross got a massive performance out of Audrey Ayala, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Bree Benson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Woods Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.
Bountiful's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 15-2. As for Woods Cross, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9.
Woods Cross' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bountiful has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Woods Cross, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Bountiful's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bountiful took their victory against Woods Cross in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the RedHawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
