The Summit Academy Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Uintah Utes at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Summit Academy has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Uintah will arrive with seven straight victories.
Summit Academy fell victim to Orem and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They lost 15-0 to the Tigers. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Bears were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Uintah made easy work of Mountain View on Tuesday and carried off a 12-2 win. The Utes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Lynlie Hall made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Uintah let Kynlee Bristol and Sophia Pope run wild. Bristol went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Pope went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Pope a new career-high. Leena Sharp was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Uintah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in 12 consecutive games.
Uintah's record now sits at 13-2-1. As for Summit Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Summit Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Uintah struggles in that department as they've averaged .400. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Summit Academy suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Uintah in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
