Baseball Game Preview: Prospect Panthers vs. Del Mar Dons

For the second straight game, Prospect will face off against Del Mar. The Panthers will take on the Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Prospect has three straight wins, Del Mar has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Prospect beat Del Mar 4-1. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly three runs.

Kevin-Joseph Rieden and Jeremy Wang were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rieden struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Wang tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Prospect is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Rieden went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Wang scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Rieden is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Moises Gonzales was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Kyle Pollace was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Prospect was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Prospect's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Del Mar, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
