Softball Recap: Alton Wins Going Away Against Althoff Catholic

Alton won the last time they faced Althoff Catholic and things went their way on Monday too. The Redbirds were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Crusaders. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Redbirds.

Sydney Moore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Lilly Henkhaus was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Gabby Gonzalez was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Alton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Alton's record now sits at 5-15. As for Althoff Catholic, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.
