South Dade is 0-10 against Palmetto since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Buccaneers will face off against the Panthers. South Dade has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
South Dade fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Ferguson on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Falcons, falling 19-13.
B. Cuellar was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. Cuellar was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, K. Pena stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was A. Tomas, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 25 runs the game before, Palmetto was a bit more limited in their match last Thursday. They lost 15-0 to Coral Reef. The Panthers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
South Dade's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Palmetto, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Dade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .446. However, it's not like Palmetto struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Dade might still be hurting after the 25-8 loss they got from Palmetto when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
