The Mission Hills Grizzlies will head out to face off against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mission Hills has four straight wins, Rancho Bernardo has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mission Hills barely beat San Pasqual the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Golden Eagles on Friday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Grizzlies this season.
Oloa Motas and Leah Llamas were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Motas pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Meanwhile, Llamas pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Motas went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Llamas fired off two home runs, six RBI, and two doubles while going 4-for-5. What's more, Llamas posted two runs, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Sengsouly, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Addison Russell, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Mission Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while it was Rancho Bernardo who put the first runs on the board on Friday, it was Del Norte who put up more. The Broncos fell just short of the Nighthawks by a score of 2-1.
Rancho Bernardo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Hausherr, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Rancho Bernardo's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1. As for Mission Hills, their record is now 12-8.
Mission Hills came up short against Rancho Bernardo in their previous matchup back in April, falling 8-5. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
