Midway is 8-2 against West Bladen since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Raiders will welcome the Knights at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Midway sitting on four straight wins and West Bladen on three.
Midway had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Fairmont on Friday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Golden Tornadoes. Considering the Raiders have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jordyn Christopher made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Christopher was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Karabeth Benton was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Samantha Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Midway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, West Bladen narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Clinton 6-5.
Like Midway, West Bladen also got a great game from a two-way player: Allison Hickman. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Hickman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Hickman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marlene Crabtree, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Midway pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for West Bladen, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Midway took their win against West Bladen when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-4 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
