The San Ramon Valley Wolves will head out to challenge the Monte Vista Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ramon Valley will be strutting in after a win while Monte Vista will be coming in after a loss.
San Ramon Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Livermore, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolves put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 7-1 victory on Tuesday. The Wolves not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th.
Lila McLeod spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mads Sekera, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Addie Layous was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Foothill. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Monte Vista saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carina Shi, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Shi's first of the season.
San Ramon Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Monte Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. San Ramon Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monte Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
San Ramon Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Monte Vista when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
