The Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Cannelton Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Shawe Memorial pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-61 to Trimble County. Shawe Memorial has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Cannelton took a serious blow against Medora on Friday, falling 64-30.
The losing side was boosted by Trevor Hale, who scored 11 points. He scored a full 36.7% of Cannelton's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Shawe Memorial now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Cannelton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Everything came up roses for Shawe Memorial against Cannelton when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 63-26 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Cannelton's Logan Larson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds.
