Anclote extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-8. They lost 22-6 to the Zephyrhills Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sharks of the 18-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.
Johniya Swinton led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Ashley Pena Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Zephyrhills' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Zephyrhills' side, Melanie Moreno made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moreno was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Briana Vega was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Devyn Ward, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Anclote has already played their next game, a 19-1 defeat against Gulf on the 17th. As for Zephyrhills, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 loss against River Ridge on the 17th.
