Basketball Recap: Southside Makes It 11 in a Row at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Southside faced off against South San Antonio on Friday. The Southside Cardinals strolled past the South San Antonio Bobcats with points to spare, taking the game 43-28. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 29-24 back in November.

Southside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabryela Galvan led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to eight boards and six assists. Another player making a difference was Katie Camarillo, who posted eight points in addition to ten rebounds and four steals.

Galvan wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Southside was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South San Antonio only racked up five assists.

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jewel Alvarez, who had eight points along with seven boards and four blocks. Alvarez is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted four or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tonie Chapa, who put up five points and seven boards.

Southside's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.4 points per game. As for South San Antonio, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southside will venture away from home to challenge MacArthur at 6:30 p.m. on December 20th. Southside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. South San Antonio will take on Marion in a holiday battle at at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
