Venture Academy never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past the River Islands Riptide 6-0. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Savanah Espinoza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Amiyah Pizano and Tiffany Bruss did most of the damage at the plate: Pizano went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Bruss scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Bruss is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Natalie Padilla was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
The win was the fifth in a row for Venture Academy, bringing their record up to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.2 runs over those games. As for River Islands, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
