The Lewisburg Patriots will take on the Hernando Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lewisburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Lewisburg's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Oxford 15-0. The Patriots have beaten the Chargers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Chargers has come to flipping the script.
Lewisburg got a massive performance out of Anna Etter, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Etter has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Leona-Klaire Stokes, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Lewisburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Hernando faced DeSoto Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The game marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.
Kate Johnson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hernando saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Hodge, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Lewisburg's victory bumped their record up to 15-10. As for Hernando, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 21-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lewisburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Hernando struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lewisburg was able to grind out a solid win over Hernando when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-4. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
