Chaparral extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-14. They came up short against the Sunrise Mountain Miners, falling 19-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-13 back in March.
Nathan Ramos made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Leury Robles Rosario was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Sunrise Mountain, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-14. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
On Sunrise Mountain's side, Derek Taisakan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Taisakan was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sunrise Mountain got a massive performance out of Alexander Granados, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The Miners are 2-1 when Granados posts two or more runs, but 0-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Akeem Thrower, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Chaparral will venture away from home to square off against Coronado at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Cougars have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will host Mojave at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Miners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rattlers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
