At one time ranked the No. 1 high school player in the Class of 2015, Cameron finished the season ranked No. 2 by Perfect Game. He also was the first small schools player taken in the Major League Baseball Draft, going to the Houston Astros with the No. 37 overall selection.
Cameron also has the genes to become a Major League player. His father, Michael, was an all-star and a Gold Glove winner during his 17-year career.
The
Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) outfielder also had the stats. He batted .455 on the season with eight home runs and earned player of the year honors from Gatorade for the state of Georgia.
MaxPreps 2015 Small Schools Coach of the Year: Steve DeCaroDeCaro led
Mattituck (N.Y.) to the New York Class B state championship with a 27-1 record. In winning the state title, Mattituck finished ranked No. 1 in the state by the MaxPreps Computer Rankings.
The Small Schools All-American Team consists of two teams of 30 players each. The players are selected from schools that belong to state enrollment divisions with generally 1,000 students or less.
