The Rigby Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Thunder Ridge Titans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, Rigby came up short against Highland and fell 18-14. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Madison Jensen led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Samantha Bishop was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Thunder Ridge entered their tilt with Madison on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats a 16-0 shutout. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Carly Jones looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Thunder Ridge got a massive performance out of Zoey Sorg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Sorg a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenley Butler, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3.
Thunder Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Thunder Ridge's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rigby, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rigby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Thunder Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rigby might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Thunder Ridge in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
