The South View Tigers won against the Lumberton Pirates last Tuesday with 46 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. South View snuck past the Pirates with a 46-40 win. Given South View's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Pirates are ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South View's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordynn Parnell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Parnell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nahmiah Aekins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Lumberton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charley Whitley, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was BreAndrea Glover, who scored nine points along with five steals.
South View is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Lumberton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
South View will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lumberton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday. As for they, they will head out on the road to square off against South View at 6:00 p.m. South View will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
