Minersville hasn't had much luck against Williams Valley recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Battlin' Miners will square off against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Minersville's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
Minersville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Pen Argyl by a score of 35-27. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Battlin' Miners were the (much) better team in the second half.

Dante Carr had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 300 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.3 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 113.8 rushing yards per game. Derek Derenzo helped out on the ground, rushing for 130 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Minersville proved: they limited Pen Argyl to a paltry 3.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Derenzo for the heroic effort on defense: he. Minersville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.6.
Minersville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Paiten Lapoint and Justin Cutler.
Meanwhile, Williams Valley had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Raptors 42-13. The Vikings' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Minersville better focus on containing Fletcher Thompson and Brady Shomper as the pair were huge in Williams Valley's win. Thompson gained 200 total yards and three touchdowns, while Shomper rushed for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. What's more, he's the game marked his fourth straight with at least 129. Another player making a difference was Evan Achenbach, who picked up 29 receiving yards and two scores.
One reason for the win was Williams Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Trevon Bair, Cole Hubler, and Eli Weiss, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Minersville's record now sits at 9-2. As for Williams Valley, their record is now 10-1.
Saturday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Carr and Shomper. Carr just won't slow down this season and has thrown 26 touchdowns while averaging 145.5 passing yards per game. Shomper has been a dominant force too and has thrown 23 touchdowns while averaging 138.8 passing yards per game.
Minersville couldn't quite finish off Williams Valley in their previous meeting back in September and fell 43-40. Can the Battlin' Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
