It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Southside Mavericks had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Jonesboro 53-27. The result was nothing new for Southside, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Southside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Zimmerman out in front who rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 93 yards and a touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. Isaac Gregory also helped out as he racked up 126 rushing yards.
Several Hurricane players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Terrance Brown, who punched in two rushing scores, and also threw for 82 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Jordan Daniels was another key contributor, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Southside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Jonesboro, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Southside is on the road again on Friday and play against Fayetteville at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Fayetteville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 489 points over their last ten contests. Jonesboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
