Newton County Academy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Prentiss Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Generals were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Saints on Thursday. Considering the Generals have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Steven Duke was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Bryce Jones was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Newton County Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Cooper Thrash also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Newton County Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Prentiss Christian, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Coming up, Newton County Academy will welcome Starkville Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Generals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Prentiss Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against Adams County Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
