Moon Area and Mars are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Moon Area Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Mars Fightin' Planets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Moon Area is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
Last Friday, Moon Area didn't have too much trouble with West Allegheny at home as they won 58-42. Given Moon Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while West Allegheny is ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Mars beat Erie 57-50 on Sunday. 57 seems to be a good number for Mars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Mars' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Ceh led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ceh hasn't dropped below 15points for 12 straight games. Austin Campbell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists.
Moon Area's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. As for Mars, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Moon Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Mars in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, sneaking past 63-60. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mars' Tasso Sfanos, who scored 24 points along with five assists. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Moon Area to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
