On Thursday, the West Orange Mountaineers faced the Immaculate Conception Lions in a battle between two of the state's top teams. West Orange took a hard 61-47 fall against the Lions. West Orange's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
West Orange lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anaya Karriem, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Karriem has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Francis-Bunkley, who scored eight points along with eight blocks and three steals.
West Orange's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. As for Immaculate Conception, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
West Orange will stay at home for another game and welcome the Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on February 3rd. Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 14th). As for Immaculate Conception, they will square off against the at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
