After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Silver Creek, Southwestern was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Switzerland County Pacers with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Tryson Warren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Andrew Varble was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Austin Jenkins also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Southwestern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Switzerland County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.
