The Southmoore SaberCats's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Ponca City Wildcats at 8:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Southmoore suffered their closest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of Broken Arrow by a score of 47-45. While losing is never fun, Southmoore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Broken Arrow is ranked eighth).
Meanwhile, Ponca City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 62-51 to Choctaw. Ponca City has struggled against Choctaw recently, as their matchup on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Tay Moore put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 28 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 54.9% of Ponca City's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Kreisel, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Southmoore's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Ponca City, they bumped their record down to 2-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
Southmoore strolled past Ponca City when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 67-48. Will Southmoore repeat their success, or does Ponca City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
