Highland and St. Vincent-St. Mary squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Highland had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Fighting Irish by a score of 3-1. The Hornets' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Highland got a good showing from Lorenzo Nemec, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Nemec has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Highland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dan Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 19-4. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
