The St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins are taking a road trip to challenge the Campolindo Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Patrick-St. Vincent has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent lost 20-4 to De Anza last Wednesday. The Bruins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaquelyn Benito, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Jasmyn Towns also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Campolindo made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mt. Diablo on Thursday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 14-4 win. Considering the Cougars have won five games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Paige Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Maya Hammerman was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four runs and one triple.
Campolindo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.
Campolindo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent might still be hurting after the 19-3 loss they got from Campolindo in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
