Baseball Recap: Catoosa Has No Trouble Against Checotah

Catoosa made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Checotah, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Catoosa was the clear victor by a 17-9 margin over Checotah on Monday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Brogan O'Neal, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Catoosa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Jerett McMains also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

O'Neal wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Catoosa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

The win made it two in a row for Catoosa and bumps their season record up to 7-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Checotah, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Catoosa will have a chance to go back-to-back against Checotah: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
