The California Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Bentworth Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in California's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six contests.
California stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 62-6 win over Bethlehem Center. With California ahead 36-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
California got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Spencer Petrucci out in front who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Petrucci hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Jake Layhue was another major influence, as he rushed for 130 yards and ran in a TD.
Another reason for the win was California's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Bethlehem Center's QB won't forget Christian Ross anytime soon given Ross sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, Bentworth had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 20-12 victory over Carmichaels on Friday.
Vitali Daniels and Ben Hays were among the main playmakers for Bentworth as the former threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns and the latter gained 129 total yards and three touchdowns.
California's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Bentworth, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
Everything came up roses for California against Bentworth in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 61-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for California since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
