Spoto hasn't had much luck against Riverview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Spoto's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Brandon with a sharp 16-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Lena Murphy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Spoto got a massive performance out of Chanel Williams, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Williams a new career-high in RBI (three). Keira Mitchell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI.
Spoto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Riverview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Robinson 18-9 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Sharks considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Alivia Garry was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Girard, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
The win got Spoto back to even at 7-7. As for Riverview, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Spoto has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Riverview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Spoto suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Riverview in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
