The Amundsen Vikings will be playing at home against the Lane Tech Champions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amundsen is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
Amundsen won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They suffered a tough 67-41 loss at the hands of Trinity. Amundsen was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Hannah Lopez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Alyssa Valdez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Lane Tech, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-39 loss to Glenbrook North on Saturday. Lane Tech has not had much luck with Glenbrook North recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Melanie Blanco, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grace Bush, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Amundsen has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Lane Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Amundsen have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lane Tech, though, as they've been averaging only 37.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Amundsen took a serious blow against Lane Tech when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 58-26. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Amundsen was down 38-11.
