Football Recap: Sanger West Comes Up Short

Sanger West dropped down to 4-4 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They were beaten by the McLane Highlanders 49-14. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 575th, while the Highlanders are ranked 224th).

Although Sanger West took the loss, they still got scores from TANNER KUHNEL and HECTOR CAYETANO THOMAS.

As for McLane, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 49.4 points this season.

McLane's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vernon Lacy, who threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 30 yards. Lacy has been hot recently, having posted four or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Another rusher making a difference was Dimareea Banks, who gained 186 total yards and three touchdowns.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sanger West is set to take on their familiar foe Fresno at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. Meanwhile, McLane will face off against rival Madera South at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
