The Mountain Ridge Sentinels will head out on the road to face off against the Corner Canyon Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Corner Canyon is ranked seventh).
Last Friday, Mountain Ridge lost to Bingham at home by a decisive 62-46 margin.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Will Lindsay, who scored 16 points. He hasn't dropped below 16 points for four straight games. Wyatt Sylvester was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Corner Canyon had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.1 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They claimed a resounding 75-40 win over Copper Hills at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Corner Canyon had established a 26 point advantage.
Corner Canyon can attribute much of their success to Brody Kozlowski, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds, and Isaac Neibaur, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Kozlowski has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Derelle Desire, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and seven blocks.
Mountain Ridge has not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Corner Canyon, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mountain Ridge hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.3 points per game. However, it's not like Corner Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.4 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Mountain Ridge might still be hurting after the 83-60 loss they got from Corner Canyon when the teams last played back in January. Can Mountain Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
