The Florence Gophers won the last time they faced the Globe Tigers, and things went their way on Friday too. Florence strolled past the Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 63-49. Given Florence's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Tigers are ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Florence to victory were Adrian Taufaasau and Logan Stenson. Taufaasau dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds, while Stenson dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Stenson hasn't dropped below three steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Rory Terry, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Globe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonas Dillon, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Josiah Cutter was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Florence has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Globe, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.
Florence will be playing at home against the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Benjamin Franklin is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.1 points per game this season. As for Globe, they will head out on the road to square off against the Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully American Leadership Academy - Anthem South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 last Tuesday.
