West Grand is 7-0 against the Eagles since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Grand Mustangs will look to defend their home court against the Caprock Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Saturday, West Grand had to suffer through a rough 69-40 loss at the hands of the Panthers. West Grand has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their game on Saturday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
West Grand's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor Martinson, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Luci Bruchez who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinson has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Caprock Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 53-30 loss at the hands of North Park.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Taylor Phillips, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
West Grand's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Caprock Academy, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
West Grand strolled past the Eagles in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 38-21. Does West Grand have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
