The Telfair County Trojans fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Wheeler County Bulldogs on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Bulldogs 57-53. While losing is never fun, Telfair County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Wheeler County is ranked 164th).
Despite the loss, Telfair County still got an impressive performance from Rodriquez Clay, who scored 19 points. Clay hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. Jordan Mcrae was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Telfair County dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Wheeler County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Telfair County and Treutlen will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Treutlen's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Wheeler County, they will head out on the road to square off against Jeff Davis at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Jeff Davis is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
