Northwest Crossroads recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lowell, who took down 68th ranked Hobart, 21-20. George Fields ran for 174 yards in the win.
Andrean extended the longest winning streak in Northwest Crossroads this week by beating Highland, 42-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Fighting 59ers.
Dom Lucito was a force in the backfield as Munster bested Griffith.
Lucito was a passing and rushing force as the Mustangs bested the Panthers.
Kyle Buikema put up the best numbers in passing as Griffith fell to Munster. He finished with 5 completions for 123 yards. Buikema's favorite target this week was Tyvon Johnson, who caught 3 passes for 80 yards.
The Brickies' Andrew Barras and Drey Devereaux led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Barras has thrown for 941 yards this season, while Devereaux, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 31 catches for 507 yards. The Red Devils' Fields leads the league in rushing yards with 943.
Lowell's Fields is a mere 57 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 134 carries Fields has put up 943 yards this year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Hobart's Devereaux goes up against Leroy Marsh's team's Anthony Conroyd.
Next week's game between Ryan Turley's team and the Mustangs will feature an aerial matchup as Barras tests his arm against Conroyd's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Andrean takes on Kankakee Valley. As it stands, Phil Mason's team is in first, while the Kougars are in fifth.
