Queen's Grant relied on the efforts of Mekhi Allen, who to rack up 26 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, and Preston Scott, who en route to 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in points. Ian Howard was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.
Queen's Grant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Union Academy challenged Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. Union Academy took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mount Pleasant. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Union Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lloyd Barnes on his way to 17 points and eight boards. Barnes is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Heath Lunsford, who posted seven points.
Queen's Grant's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.5 points. As for Union Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Queen's Grant has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Union Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Queen's Grant strolled past Union Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2021 by a score of 70-55. Will Queen's Grant repeat their success, or does Union Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
