The Stanton County Trojans entered their tilt with the Springfield Longhorns with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Stanton County strolled past Springfield with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 71-54. That's another feather in the cap for Stanton County, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stanton County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryan Callegas, who scored 17 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Callegas scored 15 or more points. Gerardo Robles was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Springfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Stolebarger, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Stolebarger has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Batterton, who scored 16 points along with six steals.
Springfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Stanton County racked up 14 assists.
Stanton County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton County will challenge Wichita County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Walsh at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
