Curry has gone 8-2 against Hayden recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Curry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Hayden's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Curry lost 13-3 to Hewitt-Trussville on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Yellowjackets, who until this game were averaging 3.25 runs allowed.
Shileigh Williams made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hayden, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Cordova on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Gracie Butler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Halie Pavolini, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Addy Hodo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Hayden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cordova only posted an OBP of .321.
Hayden's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Curry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-12-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Curry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Hayden struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Curry beat Hayden 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
