The Welch Wildcats will face off against the Oaks-Mission Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.
Welch blew South Coffeyville out of the water the last time the pair played, but last Thursday South Coffeyville got their revenge. Welch fell just short of South Coffeyville by a score of 10-8. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Welch saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colten Moss, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another was Brody Mills, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Even though they lost, Welch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Oaks-Mission is still winless after their match against Hulbert last Thursday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Riders. One positive for the Warriors, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Poncho Hair made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game. Braden Smith also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Welch's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Oaks-Mission, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Oaks-Mission's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Welch has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. It's a different story for Oaks-Mission, though, as they've only averaged .306. Will they be able to contain Welch's hitters?
Everything went Welch's way against Oaks-Mission in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Welch made off with a 13-1 win. Does Welch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Oaks-Mission turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
